AMERICAN INDIE – An Orginal Bioscope Film Festival

1551687_642094779162091_1874775070_n

A showcase of some of the best contemporary independent films to have come out of North America. The selection is made possible through The Bioscope’s relationship with New York-based distribution company, Factory 25.

16 – 19 January. Tickets R40

  • 16 JAN. 7pm. RICHARD’S WEDDING. An irreverent, often politically incorrect and ultimately touching film that plumbs the depths of friendship and marriage.

  • 17 JAN. 8pm. THE SHEIK AND I. Commissioned by a Middle Eastern Biennial to make a film on the theme of “art as a subversive act,” independent filmmaker Caveh Zahedi goes overboard.

  • 18 JAN. 6pm. PAVILION. Tim Sutton’s debut feature, likened to films by Gus Van Sant and Pedro Costa, follows a laconic teenager who moves from an idyllic lakeside town to his father’s home in arid suburban Arizona.

  • 18 JAN. 8pm. THE OREGONIAN. There is a place. A place where the skies are wide and the forests are thick—and strange. You can lose yourself forever in these woods. You’ll meet truckers with problems and old women with strange powers. You may even make a furry friend. Just be sure to stay quiet.

  • 19 JAN. 5pm. FAKE IT SO REAL. A head-first dive into the world of independent pro wrestling.

  • 19 JAN. 7pm. COVENTO. Dutch kinetic artist Christiaan Zwanikken reanimates deceased local wildlife and skeletal parts using servo-motors and robotics. He breeds these new species in a 400 year old monastery in a remote village in Portugal.
