Coffin Full of Hellcats Vol. 1, is the first EP from the band Hellcats. Hellcats are a two-piece, stripped down, bare knuckle rock ‘n roll band from Johannesburg featuring Alessandro Benigno on drums and vocals, and Warwick Rautenbach on guitar.
The EP consists of 3 tracks, all in the same vein; driving riffs and wailing vocals with an unquestionable 70’s rock influence. They take the audience back to an era they wish they could have experienced; conjuring up Zeplin and Sabbath alike. Filthy. Uninhibited. The songs, written by The ‘Cats themselves, were carefully picked from the bands vast live catalog. The aim for this first EP was to come out the gate swinging and armed with three of the band’s most energetic, hard hitting tracks. The production captures the live rock ‘n roll spectacle that make Hellcats a duo to behold.
Levon Lock produced, mixed and mastered the tracks at Big House Studios in Johannesburg and harnessed the untamed essence of the band’s gritty live sound, beautifully.
Coffin Full of Hellcats Vol. 1 is the first in a series of EP’s that will be individually released and will be available in limited edition coffin shaped USB sticks.
About Hellcats:
In their short time together, Hellcats have torn through the South African underground scene and shared big stages with giants Fokofpolisiekar and Aking. Recently, the band headlined the Vans stage at Rocking the Daisies and later this month they will play Park Acoustics in Pretoria alongside Goldfish and BCUC.
Their music is unashamedly raw and their performance full throttle energy. Hellcats achieves, with just two members, a colossal sound that engulfs the audience in their hellish purr.
