Mad Decent Block Party featuring Major Lazer, Dillon Francis, and Flosstradamus is almost here thanks to Olmeca Tequila and Seed Experiences. Earlier this week we managed to have a chat with liver, one of the local acts performing on the day. Not only did he answer a few questions but he made a mix specifically for The Beard! See it as a sneak peak of what is to come. What a rad dude! Check it out…
The Beard :: You’re playing at Mad Decent Block Party on the 8th of February, got something special planned for your set?
liver :: I don’t really plan sets at all, but I think it’s gonna be like this mix – fresh music, different styles. I really want to push some rad and interesting music I’ve got to the crowd; something a lil’ different here and there you know.
The Beard :: You’ve been making music for a while now and most of it is available for free download, ever thought of making a full length album people can buy?
liver :: I don’t really see the point of making music for sale – unless you’re a Kanye West. As far as I’m concerned, I just want people to hear what I make, if they dig it, awesome, I’ll keep on making it, if not, oh well.
As far as a full length album goes, I’ve never even made a full EP (*he says cowering behind the table*). It’s pretty stupid I know, but I’ve never really had the patience. When I finish a track, I kind of want to get it out there. I think I really need to – an EP at least. Maybe that’s one of my New Years resolutions?
The Beard :: In regards to MDBP (Mad Decent Block Party), what are you most excited about?
liver :: Aaah man, the show! It’s going to be so rad to party getting down to music you’ve been hearing from the other side of the digital divide for so long.
Dillon Francis vs. DJ Hanzel ++ 🙂
The Beard :: So you’ve made us a mix just for MDBP, tell us what went into and the thought process behind it?
liver :: Well, I kind of wanted to make a mix like my sets – kind of all over the place, some new tracks, some old classics, with highs and lows. But I also included some stuff from the artists performing here at the #OlmecaMDBP to give the folks a taste of things to come.
The Beard :: What are your thoughts all these international artists gracing our shores?
liver :: It’s super cool man. We’re beginning to feel like the centre of the universe!
The Beard :: What band/DJ are you currently listening to?
liver :: Yoh, I jump and twist and turn – all depending on the mood I’m in:
Bondax, Snakehips, Hudson Mohawke, Bruce Springsteen, Dillon Francis, Nadastrom, Opiuo, Burial, Gravy compilation dudes, Flume, Ta-Ku, Oliver, Tommy Trash, Bonobo, Keys n Krates! There is a lot of good music out there.
The Beard :: I’m sure a few people have wondered this, how did you come across the name ‘liver’?
liver :: Ha! Yeah, a few have. It was a school joke about an ex that turned into what people called me. I dig it 🙂
Take a listen to the mix liver made for us, which I’m sure you’ll agree, is totally awesome. Share it, enjoy it!
