Sea of Green [Interview]
We had a chat with Pretoria based band Sea of Green before they rock out at Capital Craft this month. Check it out:
Your Facebook states “With a few breaks and delays, they eventually kick-started the project in mid 2011” so what were those delays and how did Sea of Green finally form?
We initially fell between styles and influences and struggled to find a concrete sound, because we all came from different backgrounds. To find a good rhythm section was also a problem for us, so when the ultra experienced Dave Georgiades joined us on drums and hugely talented and versatile bassist Raldo Mattheus joined us, we could refine our sound and create this unique product that we have today.
We see you recently came back from STRAB in Mozambique, how was it performing there on the beach?
This was one of our bucket list items along with Koppi and Park Acoustics, so this was immensely rewarding. We were under huge pressure after seeing all the talented musicians. Our gig went great until almost the end, when the amazing Eskom decided to cut it short… but we had an amazing crowd and they helped us finish the rest of the song by singing along.
What kind of set can we expect from you at Capital Craft?
Energetic, gypsy and jazz inspired party tunes.
Which band would be your dream to open for?
Mine would be either Mango Groove or Squirrel Nut Zippers
You look like you love to party, tell us one of the craziest/weirdest things to happen at one of your gigs?
The most crazy ones , I can’t really remember or divulge on, but there has been all sorts, from falling off the stage to having beer drinking competitions in one of our songs (which we do most of our gigs) and these group of beautiful ladies managed to down three draughts faster than the group of hurly burly jocks.

Dark, shady and damp bars J, under the sea and in the dog box.
