I had a chat with the best dude, Gad from Adventure Man ahead of his band’s performance at the Crash Test Dummies gig coming up this month, this is what he had to say…

1. Adventure Man has surely come a long way since the days of being called King Dinosaur, and now you’ll be sharing the stage with Crash Test Dummies on the 18th of February. How does it feel to be on the lineup?

Hey Nic! Good to hear from you man. I have come a long way, yes, and opening for Crash Test Dummies is quite a career milestone for me. My high school band used to play CTD covers and I would later use them as inspiration for my latest album Dog Daze. They are one of my all-time favourite bands, and I couldn’t be more stoked to open for them!

2. What other international bands would you dig to share the stage with?

Wow, that’s a tough one. If I had to pick one, I’d have to say Cake. I would also love to do a solo acoustic show with Ryan Adams.

3. Which local band is your favourite to tour with (besides Shortstraw)?

Ha! Another toughie, it would be difficult to pick between The Plastics and Grassy Spark.

4. What bands are you currently listening to?

Right now I’m listening to Smallpools, Cayucas and the new Beck album. Oh and Rostam’s (Ex Vampire Weekend) new album. Coast Modern is pretty amazing as well.

5. What is your opinion on the local indie scene at the moment?

There are a lot of amazing bands coming out, but not enough venues to sustain them, which is a great pity. It’s tough to find gigs to accommodate all the bands we have, besides our festivals of course, so it’s great we have a company like Melos looking to innovate and find new spaces to host shows.

6. Which local indie band/musician do you think is making waves at the moment?

Desmond and the Tutus are absolutely killing it. They’re great guys, and their latest album – done at High Seas Studios where Shortstraw and Adventure Man record – might be one of the best things to come out of this country.

7. With the release of your recent album ‘Dog Daze’, what’s next for Adventure Man?

I’ve been working on some new songs, but there’s no plan to do another album just yet. I love the idea of a concept album, so I’ll see what else I write and try to link it all together. I would love to play some more shows overseas, and with Shortstraw’s hiatus this year, it’s now an option.

8. I’m amped to check you and the rest of the band at the Crash Test Dummies concert. Can you tell the fans where they can follow you to keep up with new music and tours?

I certainly can!
