I got the chance to see two door cinema club live. Spent the night getting whipped in the face by the guy to right’s rat tail, it must have been a metre long. It didn’t get me down though

Walking with a couple of mates through the Karoo desert at Afrikaburn, we stumbled upon a traffic jam. After looking at this a bit more carefully, we noticed an abundance of breasts. We had landed ourselves smack, bang in the middle of critical tits and we just went with the flow. The first traffic jam I’ve ever enjoyed.

Best concert is 2 years ago oppi koppi, the lineup was amazing and it was with the best of friends. Yes, I woke up dazed and confused in a tent that wasn’t my own, lost my wallet, got measles, and barely came out alive, but it was all worth it! Bring on more memories from synergy. 🙂

    My best festival story….

So we at Oppi, chilling on that bank that runs up from the Wesley Dome stage. Its night time to it is dark but its Oppi, so you can see whats going on around you.

This guy stumbles up to the bank, so plastered on festival spirit(s) that he doesnt see the audience of people sitting on the bank. He unzips his pants and begins to relieve himself right there in front of everyone. If this isnt bad enough, one of his mates sees him and joins in for a team pee.

They are now standing next to each other dicks in the wind with maybe 200 spectators.

The first guy has a speed wobble and falls into his own, freshly created puddle, the second guy trys to help him up, with his one available hand, and inevitably ends up peeing on his mate and himself.

The first guy is now covered in patches of pee, some his own, some his mates. They eventually end up vertical, put their weapons away, throw their arms around each others shoulders and head off for more festival adventures.

Funniest thing ive ever seen at any festival EVER!

My most treasured and horrific memory has to have been oppi 2012. The tale of Oppi Jesus. At about 12 midday on sat. I had gone to buy an ice cream and upon my adventures I had stumbled upon a highly intoxicated man (obviously). With a crown of thorns attached to his box of wine. Absolutley filthy, sticky, all kind ofs horried. I knew I had to follow him. So proceeded my adventure. I watched this man whip his penis out, swing it around, then take off his pants and piss on them. But wait it gets better. He then took off all his clothes and attempted to take a dump right in front of the stage. Even shotgun tori was distracted by these antics. I stood there watching this while eating my ice cream it was like oppi reality tv. He then proceeded to take all his clothes off, leave them behind. He attempted some form of conversation with me, after throwing his box of smokes at me and then stumbled off naked, crown of thorns in tact, box of wine- and then feel in possibly the only mud puddle at oppi. It is was the most hilarious moment ever. He is my hero- oppi jesus. The hero I wish to never be. He is forever embeded in my brain and in my phone. Sweet Beard Folk. 🙂

One of my favourite memories is from two years ago at Oppi. The whole festival my friends and I managed to force our way to the front of the crowd for every act. On the last night we got separated just before Bullet for My Valentine. I climbed up into the sound stage at the very back of the area where they were playing and I got to watch about 20 000 people moving like an ocean with the best sound quality I had experienced that whole festival! The whole experience was mind-blowing! I expect nothing less from Synergy!

At Campus Invasion 2013, I was able to see the incredible talent and variety that South African musicians have to offer. From the slightly chilled vibe that came from ISO to the crazy scaffolding climbing antics of Black Cat Bones, it was definitely a night to remember! Sharing this experience with friends who had never heard of any of the bands on the line up, and converting them to die hard fans after the performances just proves how talented our homegrown musicians are.

Oppi 2012, The Eagles of Death Metal had just left the stage and I was beyond ecstatic (For a variety of reasons but mostly because Enter Shikari would shortly be taking to the Wesley’s Dome stage). I am tragically short sighted and my glasses had been destroyed the previous day and so I was relying on every sense except sight (I had picked up a few extra ones over the course of the festival but I find that those sorts of senses always tend to hinder more than help).

I had arranged to meet up with some friends under the trees before heading over to take part in the bedlam that was to be the Shikari set. I waited, and waited buy no familiar figures, shapes or silhouettes emerged from the dust shrouded night. Then I heard it, the clamoring opening chords of what would be my the most energetic live show I have seen to this day. I ran as fast as my feet could carry me and dove front first into the crowd, surging forward in an effort to get as close to the front as possible.

Not only did I get right to the front but I found exactly the people I was looking for, staggering dizzily out of one of the many impromptu mosh pits and straight into my limited field of vision. I don’t believe in miracles and before then I had never really believed myself to be lucky. I had the biggest stupidest grin on my face for at least the next 24 hours, the same grin recurs whenever I think of those blissful days spent at my home away from home.

Oppikoppi .. never having been a great fan of the Afrikaans rock movement out of Cape Town, one of the funniest moments ever was at Koppi .. Main Stage, Polisiekar comes out BLASTING, Van Coke walks the stage like he’s THE KING .. swings his mic & clip … it comes off the cord & flies right into the crowd – mic lead hanging like a limp noodle in his hand and he’s blinking stupidly, probably too drunk to grasp what had just happened WHAHAHAHA

One of my best festival memories was oxbraai 2012. We had been drinking the whole day and jamming the whole night. The sun was coming up and I had blacked out at some point and wasn’t sure where my friends where I found one guy I knew and he invited me for a smoke of the greens. After that I ventured out to find my friends but was realising I needed to sleep fast, like I could tell I wasn’t going to make it much longer. So I got in the closest car I could find and there were two people in the front seats just about to sleep, we looked at each other and all started to close our eyes in unison. I woke up 45minutes later confused and proceeded to leave the car and found my friends soon after. Never got to thank those sweet souls.

My favorite festival moment was from oppi koppi this year : my best friend Dani really needed the toilet and refused to use the porta-potties by the red bull stage… So she found a squatting spot just around the corned by the concrete road and as she was in the middle of her business a bukkie came screaming around the corner with its bright lights on and caught her in full view for everyone to see with her pants down ! I literally laughed for a month ! It was a perfect deer in the headlights moment ! Lol

Was at coke fest and was super keen on seeing the main bands but had general admission tickets and the place was so packed I barely noticed the stage. Walking around trying to squeeze into a close enough spot a guy stopped my friends and I and asked if we woul like golden circle wrist bands. Ofcourse we took the offer and got to watch bands like panic at the disco and snow patrol write intront

At Ramfest this year a friend of mine managed to get his hands on some white willow from overseas and us being a group of friendly stoners decided to gladly pass the jay to a bystander who requested a puff only to discover that he was an undercover cop. Luckily he let us off the hook but it was definitely one of the scariest moments of our lives.

My favourite festival experience was back in 2004, when i was 18, at Woodstock 6. I ended up at my camp site with all my friends, either passed out in their tents or sleeping in their cars, blasting the loud rave music they listened to. I sat down on one of our last remaining camp chairs and noticed that the rest of the chairs on the braai, all burnt to a crisp. I heard in the distance, my mate Roy, running up calling himself “Sir Lancelot”. I called to him and he dubbed me “Sir Galahad”. We ventured into our neighbour’s camp site, whom had erected a massive tent for supplies. We entered and found ourselves in beer heaven, we packed as many beers as we could, in any and every pocket we had. We ventured off and hung out with random people at random camp site, made friends with weird and wonderful people we still see today. The last memory I have of that night was jamming it up in the hip hop tent smashing some embarrassing moves on the dance floor to the beats and scratches of DJ Ready D. I woke in the morning sleeping in the middle of nowhere, with all my belongings still on me (Must have told the people i was with that i was “Sir Galahad” and they probably kak’d themselves). But definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had at an SA music festival.

I think the most life changing and most recognized moment I had was at a small festival can’t even remember what it was called , but I knew I was there for my favorite band #Fuzigish , I would normally comment on the fuzz wall on facebook and twitter not thinking anything of it but showing my fan love , just than in the rush around the bar , william (willy) the trumpet player of fuzigish calls Me out and asks me to be in front of the stage close to the stairs when they started , being shocked that he even knew my name I was excited to what he wanted me there for , turns out! it was the drum players last show before traveling to capetown. in the middle of the show willy announces for me to come on stage , Malcolm handing over a huge picture college to the drum player , pointing out the fact that I’m in every single crowd photo and a few with the band members. To my surprise I was on the give away present ! crowd cheering loud and little bird pumping I jammed the rest of the show on the stage , next day I was notified that the Album has been put on google and face book listed “To the aMazing shanna lee sampson and kerry lee sampson” my twin sister by far the proudest day still

My best festival moment would have to be making drunk grass angels while waiting for my drunk girlfriend to get back from the toilet, where she managed to wait patiently behing the port-a-loo waiting for the door to open so she could use it. Prior to this all happening i had been kicked out of the festival 2 hours in for stage diving. carried out by the bouncers and having my arm band ripped off. After much negotiation with huge bouncers i was let back in. this all might seem ok, but getting kicked out of a festival 2 hours in, after spending 28 hours on a train ride to get there. it goes down as my best festival memory..

From when I was 14 I always had a thing for 1guy, no matter if he or I were in relationships with other people. So after I finished matric in 2010 we started seeing eachother on and off just more like friends with benefits than anything until thornfest 2011 when he pretty much got so drunk that he lay down next to me in our 2 toddler tent and told me he loved me for the first time. That’s a memory I will never ever ever forget. Since then, we have gone all the way to CPT for ramfest together, got so drunk at oppi that we couldn’t find his car for 6 hours! We have gone to limpopo to party the days away at a charity festival and we I’ve had the amazing chance to dance the night away watching him perform at Ramfest JHB 2013. He is my Rave buddy and my Festival soulmate, and I know its lame, but since I started going to festivals with him, they all just got so much better. so hopefully I can win this ticket and surprise him with some more amazing festival memories

    Afrikaburn 2013-Tankwa Town

The sun was slowly setting over the vast Karoo horizon, turning the sky from apricot to fuschia as I danced with thousands of whimsically adorned strangers to music streaming from a mobile pirate ship. A massive gyrating skeleton towered over us while our feet kicked up clouds of dust from the cracked desert floor. Day blurred into night and all around us, the unperturbed desert air lit up in pulsating rainbow-coloured LED lights underneath a blanket of stars in a sky so big you could see the curvature of the Earth.

It’s so hard to choose a favourite memory. It would have to be between Afrikaburn 2013 where I was lucky enough to get given a ticket by a guy I work with because his friend had just pulled out. That was two days before we were meant to leave. Somehow I got all y stuff together and made a mission down to Tankwa town. We had a punctured tyre and drove 100km in the wrong direction but eventually made it in in the early hours of the morning to thousands of colourful creations and even more colourful people. I sent the next 3 days running around in my bear suit, getting drunk, hugging, dancing and laughing with everyone I met.

December is my last month in Johannesburg, and I’m going to miss all my friends so much. Please can I win some tickets so I can have one last all out jam with the raddest peeps in South Africa! I’ll even party it up in my bear suit again!
